Couples Learn
Terms of Use — Online Courses
Effective Date August 26, 2026Who We Are and What These Terms Cover
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) are an agreement between you and Schewitz Psychological Services Inc, a Maine corporation doing business as Couples Learn (“Couples Learn,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).
These Terms govern your purchase of and access to our online courses, webinars, workshops, downloadable materials, and any related content (together, the “Courses”).
These Terms do not govern therapy services. Therapy with Sarah Schewitz, Psy.D. is a separate professional relationship covered by separate documents. Buying a Course does not create a therapy relationship, and being a therapy client does not change these Terms.
By purchasing a Course, creating an account, or accessing any Course content, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not purchase or access the Courses.
The Courses Are Education, Not Therapy
Our Courses are educational and psychoeducational products. They are not therapy, counseling, psychological treatment, medical care, or professional advice about your specific situation.
Specifically:
- No therapist-client relationship is created. Purchasing, accessing, or completing a Course does not make you a client or patient of Sarah Schewitz, Psy.D. or Couples Learn. No professional relationship of any kind is formed by your use of the Courses.
- No individualized assessment. The Courses are written for a general audience. Nothing in them is tailored to your relationship, your history, or your mental health. We have not evaluated you, and we cannot know whether the material is appropriate for your circumstances.
- Not a substitute for treatment. The Courses are not a replacement for therapy, psychiatric care, medical treatment, or medication. If you are struggling, please work with a licensed professional in your state.
- No diagnosis or treatment. Nothing in the Courses diagnoses any condition or prescribes any treatment.
- Course content is not confidential in the clinical sense. Communications you send us about a Course — support emails, form responses, comments — are business records, not protected health information covered by HIPAA. Please do not send us clinical or crisis information through Course channels.
Some Course material addresses difficult subjects, including relationship distress, betrayal, family-of-origin experiences, and attachment trauma. This material can bring up strong feelings. You are responsible for deciding whether the Courses are right for you, and for stopping or seeking support if the material becomes distressing.
Eligibility
You must be 18 or older to purchase or use the Courses. By purchasing, you confirm that you are 18 or older and legally able to enter into this agreement. The Courses are intended for a general adult audience and are not directed to children.
Purchase, Pricing, and Payment
- Price. The price of each Course is the price shown at checkout at the time of purchase. We may change prices at any time, but a price change never affects a purchase you have already completed.
- Payment processing. Payments are handled by our third-party payment processor. We do not store your full payment card details. Your use of the payment processor is subject to its own terms and privacy policy.
- Payment plans. Some Courses may be offered with a multi-payment option. If you choose a payment plan, you authorize us to charge the remaining scheduled payment(s) to your payment method automatically on the stated schedule. You are responsible for the full purchase price once you begin a payment plan.
- Failed payments. If a scheduled payment does not go through, your access to the Course is suspended until the full purchase price has been paid. We will email you at the address on your account when a payment fails. Your access is restored as soon as the balance is paid in full. Suspension does not cancel what you owe.
- Taxes. Prices may not include applicable sales, use, or value-added taxes, which will be added where required by law.
- Chargebacks. If you have a problem with a purchase, please contact us first at [email protected] — our refund policy below is generous and we would rather solve it directly. Initiating a chargeback without contacting us may result in suspension of your Course access while the dispute is resolved.
Refund Policy — 14-Day Money-Back Guarantee
You may request a full refund within 14 days of your purchase, for any reason.
- Request your refund by emailing [email protected] within 14 days of the date of purchase.
- We refund the full amount you paid.
- Refunds are issued to the original payment method. Your bank or card issuer decides how quickly the refund appears.
- When a refund is issued, your access to the Course ends and the license in Section VI terminates. You must stop using and delete any downloaded materials.
- After 14 days, purchases are final and we do not offer refunds, except where a refund is required by applicable law.
- If you are on a payment plan and refund within the 14-day window, we refund what you have paid and cancel the remaining scheduled payments.
Your License to Use the Courses
When you buy a Course, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to access and use that Course content for your own personal, non-commercial use.
You may:
- View, stream, and (where we make it available) download Course content for your personal use.
- Use the worksheets, handouts, and exercises personally, including with your own romantic partner.
- Print materials we provide in printable form for your own personal use.
You may not:
- Share, sell, rent, license, sublicense, distribute, or transfer the Courses or your account credentials to anyone else.
- Share your login with anyone outside your own household.
- Copy, reproduce, republish, upload, post, or publicly display Course content.
- Record, screen-capture, screenshot, transcribe, or otherwise reproduce Course videos or audio.
- Use the Courses or any part of them to build, teach, or deliver your own course, program, workshop, coaching, or therapy service.
- Use Course content to train, fine-tune, or ground any artificial intelligence or machine-learning system.
- Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notice.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or use automated means to access or extract Course content.
Professional use. If you are a therapist, coach, or other professional and want to use our materials with clients or in your own practice, contact us at [email protected]. That use requires separate written permission.
Intellectual Property
All Course content — including videos, audio, text, worksheets, handouts, slides, graphics, and the selection and arrangement of that content — is owned by Couples Learn or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. “Couples Learn,” our logo, and our course names are our trademarks.
Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership to you. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.
Account and Access
- You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Tell us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
- Length of access. Your purchase includes lifetime access to the Course — meaning for as long as we continue to offer it. See the discontinuation provision below.
- Course updates. We may update, improve, reorganize, or replace Course content at any time.
- Discontinuation. We may retire a Course. If we permanently remove a Course you have valid access to, we will give you reasonable advance notice and a fair opportunity to download the materials we make downloadable, or we will offer a pro-rated refund or comparable access.
- Suspension. We may suspend or terminate your access without refund if you materially breach these Terms, including the license restrictions in Section VI.
Conduct
Where a Course includes comments, community areas, or live sessions, you agree not to: harass, abuse, or threaten anyone; share another participant's private information or anything they disclose; post unlawful, defamatory, or infringing content; or advertise or solicit.
Please do not share identifying details about other people — including your partner, family members, or anyone else — in any shared Course space. We may remove content and suspend access for violations.
Third-Party Platforms and Links
The Courses are delivered through third-party platforms and may link to third-party sites and resources. We do not control those services and are not responsible for their content, availability, terms, or privacy practices.
Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE COURSES ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not promise any particular result. Relationships are complex and outcomes depend on many factors outside our control. Nothing in the Courses, on our website, or in our marketing is a guarantee that your relationship or your mental health will improve. Testimonials and reviews reflect individual experiences and are not typical results or a promise of your results.
We do not warrant that the Courses will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COUPLES LEARN, SCHEWITZ PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES INC, AND SARAH SCHEWITZ, PSY.D. WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR RELATIONSHIP OUTCOMES, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE COURSES.
OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE COURSES WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU ACTUALLY PAID FOR THE COURSE GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, willful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be limited by law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Couples Learn, Schewitz Psychological Services Inc, and Sarah Schewitz, Psy.D. from any claims, damages, losses, and reasonable legal fees arising from your breach of these Terms or your misuse of the Courses.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
Governing law. These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to the Courses, are governed by the laws of the State of Maine, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
Please talk to us first. Before starting any formal proceeding, email us at [email protected] and describe the problem. Most issues are resolved this way. If we have not resolved it within 30 days, either of us may proceed as described below.
Arbitration. Any dispute we cannot resolve informally will be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, before a single arbitrator. The arbitration may take place in Maine, by phone or video, or in the county where you live — your choice. The arbitrator's decision is final and may be entered as a judgment in any court with jurisdiction. You and we each give up the right to a jury trial and the right to have a dispute decided by a judge in court.
Small claims exception. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court, if the claim qualifies for that court.
No class actions. Disputes will be brought only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding.
Opting out of arbitration. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of your first purchase with your name and the words “arbitration opt-out.” Opting out does not affect any other part of these Terms.
Court claims. Any claim that is not subject to arbitration and is not brought in small claims court will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Maine, and you and we each consent to personal jurisdiction there.
Buyers outside the United States. If you live outside the United States, nothing in these Terms takes away any consumer protection right you have under the mandatory law of the country where you live, including any statutory cancellation or withdrawal right. Where that law conflicts with this section, that law applies to you.
Privacy
Information we collect through Course purchase and use is handled under our website Privacy Policy.
Email communications. By purchasing a Course you agree that we may add you to the Couples Learn email list and send you educational content, updates, and offers by email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email, and we will stop sending marketing messages. Messages about your purchase and your access — receipts, login details, and payment notices — are not marketing and will continue.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms. The updated version takes effect when posted, with a revised Effective Date. Changes do not apply retroactively to a purchase you already completed — the Terms in effect on your purchase date govern that purchase. Material changes affecting ongoing access will be communicated to active students by email.
General
- Entire agreement. These Terms, plus any policy referenced in them, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Courses.
- Severability. If any provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
